Strategic Planning remains a very important tool in the effective management and best use of always limited resources. Strategic Planning could be characterized as engaging in the most effective allocation of resources to the range of operations and projects which an organisation decides to undertake. Strategic Planning is so closely focused on what was done last year in order to decide on what is to be done in the following year. As a process it is far too closely aligned with the past to see the future.
Scenario Planning enables an organisation to take a break; to create time and space to plan for a future not now, not next year but perhaps in a three year horizon and then to use Strategic Planning to get there.
